Wood pellets or chimney?

I have a fireplace in my house that was covered with plaster board by the previous owner. With oil prices in around $ 4.00 a gallon now (and goes), I need an alternative. I like the aesthetics of a fireplace, wood stove and loved by my sister. Also I like the fact that heat if the power goes out. My wife prefers a pellet stove that she thinks it is more efficient. What is the right decision?

A fireplace is not very efficient in heating a house. Most of the heat goes up the chimney. A wood stove is a heat source much better because the air flow can be monitored and is in the room for radiating heat from all sides. A fireplace radiates heat only from the front. I'm guessing a pellet stove is tradition efficient than a wood stove, because everything is well controlled. However, a pellet stove will cost more to buy and install. As the demand for pellets increases the price will rise. Pellet stoves need electricity to function. A wood stove can be used as a source of emergency heat during an extended power outage. Wood is probably less expensive than pellets, especially if you can cut and split yourself.

Capitalizing on the star's recent successful engagement in London, the film casts Kaye as a neurotic American ventriloquist performing in England and Europe. In a parody of the 1946 thriller Dead of Night, Kaye is unable to control the words coming out of his dummy, resulting in a near-nervous breakdown. On the advice of his manager (David Burns), Kaye seeks out the help of a psychiatrist, who turns out to be beautiful Mai Zetterling. But first, he heads to a local repair shop to pick up one of his dummies. What Kaye doesn't know is that a set of stolen blueprints for a top-secret weapon have been secreted into his dummy's head. Before he knows what's happening, our hero is up to his ears in spies, counterspies, and corpses. Falsely accused of murder, Kaye spends the rest of the film adopting one disguise after another to elude both the authorities and the various enemy agents roaming about. Apart from much-publicized money problems that saw him leave Australia for two years in the middle of the decade, the advent of grunge saw his style of music become completely unfashionable. Barnes tried to counteract this with albums like Soul Deep (a collection of soul covers) and Flesh and Wood.Flesh and Wood was Barnes' attempt at an unplugged album, and featured such other Australian rock luminaries as Diesel, Tommy Emmanuel, and Archie Roach. While it contains some of Barnes' own material and some covers (including Cold Chisel's superb "Flame Trees"), few songs here manage to match the originals; fewer still eclipse them.A competent album that shows a more sophisticated side to Barnes that was hinted at with Soul Deep, Flesh and Wood does not hold too much interest for the casual fan. ~ Jonathan Lewis
